Quick Tidbits

Talked to the friendly neighbourhood Rogers Wireless store the other day, where maybe 10 minutes was spent complaining with (yes, that's WITH) the rep about the dismal landscape that is the Canadian wireless market. Dismal, because we adopt technology so incredibly slowly, and also that those darned ancient RAZRS are still around. Did you know they were released BEFORE the Treo 650? Ah well, on to what I found out:

  • The Treo 750 is confirmed to be coming in Q4 2007, just in time for Rogers' official HSDPA rollout; no word on whether the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade will be preinstalled or not
  • Rogers doesn't allow tethering (well, news to me)
  • Also got to play with a dummy BlackBerry 8800 the rep kindly pulled out from the back; slightly underwhelming with a mediocre keyboard, but it looks pretty enough (before my fingerprints covered it, that is)
Speaking of HTC-built devices (the Treo 750 is one; to be the last built by HTC for Palm), the Taiwanese tech company is on the rampage, releasing three new devices in Canada over the past few weeks. Yes, I know that's like how many they release to the world every fortnight, but give the Canucks a break, eh? There's the S720 (Vox) and the 6800 (Titan) for Telus, and the S621 (Excalibur) for Rogers. Not quite as exciting as the HTC Kaiser or the fabled Palm clamshell powerhouse, but one can always dream!
