Freeware of the day...... Day 9

Today's freeware is another Palm classic, Napalm Racing.

Napalm Racing was one of the first programs I installed on my very first Palm handheld. It's still as great today as it was then, however not quite as impressive as the commericial software out there today. For freeware, the graphics look great (and are designed for low-res greyscale/colour). It has a 3D engine that runs very smoothly, however is not designed for OS 5 (Garnet) and that ca cause some problems. Luckily, the developer has included a Soft Mode feature which seems to fix everything.

The option to control from the hard buttons is great for the old handhelds, but for the new PDAs it's fairly more awkward, since you can't use the 5-way navigator. The option to control via the stylus on the graffiti area is a great idea works great.

The included tracks were well designed. What I like about Napalm Racing is that it comes with an on-the-palm track designer. I found it a lot of fun quickly making a track and then facing the computer on it. In summary, if you have a low res palm I recommend this program 110%, otherwise is still a nice game to play with.
