The iPhone is Coming to Canada!

Yes, everyone's favorite over-priced telephony gadget is coming to our Glorious North. Price? I don't even want to imagine, given the atrocious data plans up here. Like our friends at Mobile Magazine say, I wouldn't be surprised if we have to pay upwards of 150 loonies a month in plans to get the privilege of being the next generation of Apple lemming...er...I mean, valued consumer.

Yes, that's right. Oh, and for that price, I can buy a nice used Treo 650 every month and a half, and with a 3-year contract (the norm, it seems), that's a lot of stubby-antennae-ed smartphones! Eek-gads!

Absolutely Ridiculous!

Three Treo-related tidbits here. First, Palm has released a camera patch for the Treo 680, which makes sure the camera on the Palm-OS powered smartphone stays turned off when the phone is in standby.

Second, Palm has released a guide to compatible cradles for the 680. What? you say, my cradle that was supposed to be compatible with the 680 is not? That's right, folks. Apparently if they're the wrong revision, the cradle will eventually damage your Treo. That's absolutely amazing. Thanks for letting us know earlier, Palm, and for forcing me to get another cradle! Ridiculous!

Third, here's a little something I caught in the XS Cargo flyer that got dropped off at my house:

Ahh, Handspring is alive and well! Kinda. If you're in Canada and want the first Treo ever, here's your chance. Of course, you could get one off of eBay or craigslist for much cheaper, and oh yeah, this one's not a phone yet. :\ Still, it's a Treo 90!

EDIT: Here's a report from Geoff, who actually went to take a look at the Treo 90s:

"That Treo is actually a refurbished one. In fact, all 3 of them in the RIchmond location are refurbished.

I was down at Costco today, doing my monthly Costco run, and decided to swing by and see if it's the real deal. Oh, they're Treos alright. But they're used and battered. THAT's why they are so cheap.

Maybe the other locations had better conditioned ones, but you can't get any Treo for that cheap!"

Actually Geoff, I think that's not very cheap, haha but then I have no idea what those things are actually worth now.

Saguaro: Not Just Another Launcher

For years, Windows Mobile users have been able to "multitask", relative to the nature of the Windows Mobile operating system environment.

A new launcher by PDA Performance, called Saguaro, is on its way. Like a hybrid of iSpin and the upcoming Windows Vista, Saguaro sure is easy on the eyes. Yet to be released, one question still remains: can it multitask? We'll let you decide for yourself:

Zodiac spotted on Stargate-SG1

Yes, I know I'm a bit of a sci-fi geek, but I thought it was pretty cool to see the Tapwave Zodiac on the tv show, Stargate-SG1. For those of you who don't know, Stargate-SG1 is also produced in Canada (in BC). Here are some screencaps I took:

Treo 700p Canadian user’s report

A Canadian blogger at PalmAddicts has posted a 3-part report on the new Treo 700p.

Here's an excerpt:
"I’ve been using my new Telus Treo 700p since December 17th (making me one of the earliest buyers here in Vancouver). We seem to get new hardware about 6 months later than those in the USA – this may be a good thing in that I learn all about the product well before I get tempted! By the way, the Treo 680 is still not available here through Telus (who offer CDMA only). The competing cell companies are all GSM, and offer only the 680p."
